The final cinematic trailer for this summer's epic blockbuster The Avengers was released this week. I'm sure you are waiting with bated breath so it is waiting for your click just above. :)
In other news, after three years show-running the Fantastic Four franchise, Jonathan Hickman will be leaving this October. He's done a fantastic effort in making the FF relevant again, and his superb world-building has cemented Hickman's FF as the definitive version for this generation. He tragically killed off Johnny Storm, created the Future Foundation, BROUGHT BACK Johnny Storm (comics!), and wove a story on such a grand scale it's no wonder the fans love him on this title. I personally will be sad to see him go, but the question must be asked...where is he going?
He's also unfortunately leaving his run on the Ultimates, stating that he had a "great opportunity that he could not pass up". Word around the internet is that he will be taking over the Avengers franchise once Brian Michael Bendis leaves that this fall, and I agree that's the most likely choice. With Bendis most likely taking the reigns on the X-books (the Cyclops centric ones at least), and now Hickman moving to possibly Avengers, there is no doubt that by this time next year the world of Marvel will be a very different place. Let's hope it's for the better.
And lastly, a little bonus. One of the oldest past-times of super-hero movie is the inevitable tie-in game. These games are often looked down upon, but the Spider-Man tie-in game franchise has a record of actually not being horrible.
Case in point, the newest trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man video game. Most likely a rental rather than a buy, but nevertheless it looks to be just as fun as Beenox's other Spidey games, so I'm anticipating it. Have a look:
And that's this week in comics. Stay tuned all this week for my continuing editorials on the golden age of comics, the rise of DC Nation over in my Channel Surfing page, and a little look into the art of the secret origin where I will tackle the pros and cons of Marvel's Season One initiative.
Until next time comics fans, stay golden!
